“”Fubar II” did not disappoint. The first “Fubar” was released in 2002, and judging by the manic crowd at the Ryerson, has picked up a considerable…cult following in the years since. The film celebrates friendship and acknowledges the modern, unconventional family. It also could revive nostalgia for the legacy of ’70s rock band Boston through its evocative use of the song “More Than a Feeling” as an exultation of joy and triumph. Dowse, along with editor Reginald Harkema, has a real feel for blending the pair’s outlandish exploits alongside more emotionally true moments. When Terry first slow-dances with his soon-to-be girlfriend (Terra Hazelton), there is a startling poignancy in the inter-cutting of glances between Dean and Terry. Alongside the pantheon of doofus duos like Wayne and Garth, Bill and Ted, and Bob and Doug, one can now without a doubt add Terry and Dean.”

“Unhinged lunacy is what fans of the original film crave and it’s on offer here in spades, backed up by some truly hilarious dialog.”

“The result is an often hilarious, sometimes surprisingly poignant film, one that joins the very rare ranks of sequels that match the creativity of the original. Arguably, the FUBAR features are precisely what Canadian cinema desperately needs — they are honest films, remarkably well acted, done on very low budgets but successful because they’re full of funny ideas.”
Toronto: ‘Fubar II’ kicks off Midnight Madness in rowdy style
Hit Fix
By Drew McWeeny
“To be honest, I’d never even heard of the film until I saw the announcement that the sequel, “Fubar II,” was set to open this year’s Midnight Madness programming. As it turns out, you don’t need to know the first film at all to enjoy the second film. If anything, it makes me want to hunt down the first film now so I can see how it all began.”
CTV News

“The sequel to one of the funniest Canadian movies ever made, this will be a riot.”

“Miraculously, the relentless assault of high-kicking pratfalls and highly quotable hoser bons mots gives way to a Christmas movie that deserves a spot on your DVD shelf, smack between It’s A Wonderful Life and the Trailer Park Boys Christmas Special.”

“No matter how antic and goofy the gags, what makes this film work is strength of the story, and the sweet dose of sentiment that waylays us in the third act.”

“And this is precisely the thing that makes FUBAR special. Anybody can say, “Look at that stupid guy over there” and crack a joke to draw a laugh or two. But it is much, much harder to say I kind of am that stupid guy, and so are you, and we all do stupidly funny stuff so why not enjoy it for a while? Rude, violent, irresponsible … it’s definitely all of those things but there’s not a single ounce of mean-spirit in it, which results in it playing sort of like a funnier, fictional version of Anvil. The cult of FUBAR is about to expand.”

“If you haven’t seen the 2002 Canadian classic, Fubar, don’t despair. It’s really not necessary that you know the back-story in order to appreciate.”
Daily Variety

“American movie comedy lacks its own Terry and Dean right now, so the guys’ deep blue-collar identity makes them fairly unique in the current landscape.”
